Sculpting in direct wax is one of my primary methods of creating new work.
This May, I will open my studio in Tuscany for a small residency focused on the creative possibilities of wax and the quiet inspiration of the Italian landscape.

Red wax is how the path to bronze casting starts, the red color allows us to see the wax clearly and reduce reflections, giving true insight into what is to come when the sculpture becomes lustorus metal.

In the artwork of Romolo,
love is about trust.
The one you entrust your heart to
is the vessel of your love.
Love does not know prudence or convenience,
only passion
and a bond of precious entwined destiny.
His sculpture,
The Kiss on the Cross of Love,
embodies this vision,
a trust fall that ends in a kiss.
Happy Valentine’s Day
to all who love.

There are many ways to study the sculpted figure.
What I offer is something more.
Long Art is not simply instruction in figurative technique. It is a disciplined immersion into aesthetic philosophy, art history, archaeology, and material science — the full lineage of sculpture.
This approach trains the eye, the hand, and the intellect.
Participants are guided not to imitate their teacher, but to discover their own vision within a living tradition.

Now entering its eleventh season, Studio Romolo Atelier presents two immersive programs dedicated to the transmission of sculptural knowledge through time-tested Italian studio traditions. 2026 Programs
- Direct Wax Sculpting Residency
Villa Casone D’Arte, Tuscany · May 2–9, 2026
- Straccio Method Clay Sculpture
North Light Studio School, Provincetown · June 8–19, 2026
Instruction follows the principles of Long Art, as taught by master sculptor Romolo Del Deo, employing Italian heirloom methods and natural materials. These practices—refined over centuries—have endured not only for their expressive power, but for their sustainability and integrity in contemporary studio life.

The Sculpture residency at Villa Casone D’Arte is centered on an sculptural approach using the direct wax method, drawing from the processes of the Italian Renaissance masters. Wax is not treated as a preparatory step, but as a complete and expressive language, one that allows ideas to emerge, shift, and resolve directly through the hands.

Sculpture Residency · Villa Casone d’Arte
May 2–9, 2026 · Tuscany
⠀
Hosted within a seventeen-hectare historic estate overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea,
this seven-day program is conceived as a residency rather than a course, emphasizing sustained engagement with material, process, and place.
⠀
Participants work directly in wax, following methodologies employed by Italian masters since the Renaissance, within the private atelier of sculptor Romolo Del Deo
⠀
Enrollment is intentionally limited to six participants, in keeping with the scale and spirit of the atelier.
